She’s from Oak Park, Illinois. He’s from Warren, Indiana. Both the babies of their families with two older siblings and entrepreneur parents. A suburban girl and a country boy.
They met in 1967 at a mutual friend’s wedding while attending Indiana University in Bloomington. A teacher. A lawyer. Married June 28th, 1969.
I thank my stars these two found each other.
One city. Three homes. Four children & a son-in-law. Five grandchildren. 50 Years.
When I was creating my parent’s wedding anniversary invitation and a little insert I included, the words grit and grace hit me.
“Let’s celebrate 50 years of grit and grace.”
Can you think of any two words to better describe a marriage and one of so many years?
Choosing every day to love and trust always, to forgive when needed, to stay resilient in a world that likes to throw curveballs.
I can only hope our boys love, appreciate, respect and enjoy Chris and I as we get older, as we do these two. You are both two of my best friends.
You are such an example of grit and grace, and we love and appreciate you so.
